La alta cordillera se habita en enclave, esto es, en la contingencia de lo topográfico y lo climático. Es en verdad que todo el habitar de la alta cordillera es contingente al medio ambiente dado que la supervivencia depende de saber leer los signos.

Es quizás por ello que el arriero no ve el paisaje sino los detalles, los elementos que le sirven de guía, de mapa mental para la navegación por un medio a ratos hostil. Una de estas rutas es la que conduce al monte campanario, frontera y destino de estos pequeños grupos trashumantes y sus cabezas de ganado.

En el espacio topográfico de la alta cordillera se funde función y forma. La toponimia designa como los nombres de calles, plazas o edificio de escala ciclópea. Corral Abierto es uno de estos lugares en la ruta del pastoreo, una detención para juntar el ganado, comer, dormir.

El dispositivo surge entonces como una concentración de energía en un territorio que apenas se deja recorrer, un minúsculo espacio de reposo. Las piezas de madera que se apilan como si de piedras se tratase, cobijan del sol, generando una ventilación vertical que saca el humo de la fogata y permite colgar los cacharros para azar la comida.

La estructura apoyada sobre las rocas existentes forma un prisma unitario y esencial que aparece al caminante como excepción permitiendo en su interior el surgimiento de los rudimentos de la vida.

The high mountain range is inhabited in an enclave, that is, in the contingency of topography and climate. It is true that all the inhabitation of the high mountain range is contingent to the environment since survival depends on knowing how to read the signs.

It is perhaps for this reason that the cowboy does not see the landscape but the details, the elements that serve as a guide, a mental map for navigation through a hostile environment at times. One of these routes leads to the Campanario Mountain, which is a border and destination of these small transhumant groups and their cattle heads.

In the topographic space of the high mountain range, function and form merge. The toponym designates the names of streets, squares or buildings of cyclopean scale. The Open Corral is one of these places on the grazing route, a stop to gather the cattle, eat and sleep.

The device emerges as a concentration of energy in a territory that barely allowes to be wandered, a tiny space of rest. The pieces of wood which are stacked as if they were stones, shelter from the sun and generate a vertical ventilation that removes the smoke from the bonfire and allows to hung pots and cook food.

The structure supported on the existing rocks forms a unitary and essential prism that appears to the walker as an exception, which allows in its interior the emergence of the rudiments of life.
